The company was founded in 2008 as subsidy of a well-known german Web & Software Solution provider. Since 2018 protectKiwi has operated as a fully standalone entity based in New Zealand — with roots and clients in Germany, Silicon Valley, and New Zealand.

Over three decades the team has delivered complex platforms for clients including major publishing houses, retail and imaging brands like ALDI, CeWeColor or Kodak, energy companies, and publishing groups — from Content Management Systems via enterprise photo ordering systems to security-focused infrastructure.

PawUnify IQ is protectKiwi’s dedicated product for the pet boarding industry — applying the same engineering discipline to a sector that has long deserved better tools.

Kapiti PetVilla was founded by Mary on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand — a genuine passion for animal care that grew from a small cattery into a full-service pet boarding facility serving dogs and cats. Frank joined as co-founder, and today both run the business together.

Working inside the facility every day, they saw the same frustrations that every facility owner faces. Booking enquiries arrived with missing information and Pet Owners had no easy way to share their pet’s details upfront. The tools that existed either forced a disruptive change of back-office system, or offered a generic shared experience with no sense of the facility’s own identity.

With protectKiwi’s 30 years of platform-building experience, the solution was clear: not a new back-office system, but a client-facing channel layer that works alongside whatever system is already in place. Kapiti PetVilla became both the inspiration and the first live deployment.
